Why Salty Lodge Exists

About Us

Salty Lodge Samoa exists because of a journey of faith.

Before the property was purchased, Karleen and Derek stood at the boundary fence and prayed over the land. From that moment, they declared that this place would be used for God — a place of restoration, peace, and families coming back together.

Karleen and Derek are believers who have personally experienced the transforming work of the Lord in their own lives. Because of this, their heart has always been that this land would become a place where others can encounter that same restoration — a place to step away from the pressures of life and spend meaningful time with God.

Salty Lodge was never intended for commercial tourism. Instead, it is being restored as a place of Christian hospitality where people can come for rest, prayer, worship, reflection, fellowship, and the breaking of bread together.

The journey of restoring the lodge has been one of faith. God has faithfully provided what was needed to rebuild and restore the property step by step. While the work is still ongoing, we continue to see His provision and guidance along the way.

One of our prayers for the future is the completion of a small chapel on the property — a dedicated place for prayer and worship. The materials are already here, and we trust that in God’s time the labour will come and the chapel will be built.

Our hope is simple: that every person who comes here finds peace, renewal, and a deeper relationship with the Lord.

The 'COTTAGE'

The 'Cottage" has been designed to be a multi purpose space, making it feel homely and relaxing.  This space comfortably accommodates 12 persons, seated around two tables, with other small break away spaces.

We hosted a beautiful wedding banquet dinner in this space last November at our womans retreat, a delicious buffet catered in house, we have held bible studies and teachings in this space, and wonderful evenings of fellowhip, worship and prayer.  Or simply just sit and read, watch TV or play the guitar.  The Cottage is home to Salted by Grace Ministry with Karleen, where old-fashioned hospitality, Christian fellowship, and peaceful retreat are lovingly shared.

Located at the front of the property, sit on the deck and gaze out towards the ocean, or listen to the birds in the surrounding trees.  As the evening begins, you will see Fruit bats starting to move around through the tree tops.

DINING FALE / OPEN LOUNGE

Located in the middle of our 2.5acre propety is our open dining fale (house), which traditionally we use to serve breakfast.  During the day the open space can be used for simply resting, or a great space for activites.  Another versitale space for your use.    The lodge also has complimentary purified filtred drinking water - perfectly chilled so remember to pack your water bottle.

GUEST LOUNGE

An open space for guests to rest, a shaded area to relax , or a simple chat.  Located at the front of the property.

POOL & OCEAN ACCESS

Our pool is presently under construction.  We hope to have this completed by July 2026.

Guests have access to the lagoon across the road from the lodge.  Kayaks are avaiable for guest use.

CHAPEL - Presently under prayer

Join Karleen and Derek in prayer over the construction of their small chapel.  When they purchased the property, they made a decision to remove a bungalow that divided the property in two.  They have keep part of this bungalow to be used as some of the frame work in the chapel yet to be constructed.  Also inheriting beautiful old windows these will also be used in the chapel.  Like us - making new things old.  This will be nestled in a quiet area of the property.  We pray that guests will enjoy this space to pray, worship, sit in stillness - we have released this to the Lord.  We will post updates on social media of any updates to this prayer.
